Carp Fishing in France

Archived News Issue 1

After 10 years spent establishing one of Frances premier carp fishing waters Paul and Jez made the heart breaking decision to sell Redmill. The sale has now been completed and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all those who have enquired about or fished Redmill over the years.

I would like to say that I feel very privileged to have been given the opportunity to carry on the work that the guys started, and I am very pleased to say that Jez remains at Redmill doing what he does best, welcoming anglers and making sure that the fishing remains some the best you will find in France in beautiful surroundings.

Although 2012 was a quiet year as far as numbers of anglers for Redmill, the fishing has been superb with multiple catches of quality fish being recorded. Jo Green started the year with a remarkable catch of 8 forties and 21 thirties. In the same week Mike Whitford had 2 forties 18 thirties and 23 fish between 18lb and 29lb. Later in the year Paul Tanton had 2 fifties 1 forty and 7 thirties. The 50 smaller stockies that Jez introduced 2 years ago are packing on the pounds and are some of the most beautifully scaled fish you will see in France. The fishing has continued to be prolific right through the year and things can only get better going in to 2013.

It is our intention to keep all that is good about Redmill the same but, like everything, there is always room for improvement! So Jez and I have been hard at work making plans for the future and some of these ideas are already in place. There are now weigh stations in every swim to make weighing the fish more accurate and safer. New recovery slings, carp cradles and unhooking mats are supplied to all anglers for fish care. We have started re building the swims utilising the sweet chestnut coppice from the woods, giving the swims a robust natural look. We have introduced a new bait, the Redmill Boillie, and after a few sessions it is proving to be very effective and is a great food source for the carp.

Plans for the future include building a new fishing lodge down in the Poplar Grove overlooking the lake with a kitchen and dining room, a large outside kitchen/BBQ and eating area, and a room to get your head down if the elements get too much! There will also be a new toilet and shower block built, and we are planning to de-silt the shallows using a bespoke machine that is currently being designed and built for us, meaning that no chemicals will be required.

We have installed Sky TV and Wi Fi into the house for those that want to keep up with the outside world, and there is a washing machine and dryer in case you run out of clean clothes.

Our new website has now gone live . We are updating the site all the time and here you will be able to see the latest captures and photos, leave feedback on the guest book, check availability and book on line. You can also order bait for your trip, book your ferry, or get in touch with us with any queries you may have. We are also planning a quarterly newsletter giving all the latest lake news, fishing tips and letting you know how we are getting on with the new improvements. If you wish to receive these newsletters please let us know and we will put you on the mailing list.

We would be happy to have any feedback regarding the new website, or to answer any questions you may have about Redmill, and look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Kind Regards

Daron & Jez
